Teen girl slammed online for being 'ungrateful' for gift

A teenage girl in the US has copped an online backlash for being "ungrateful" for a birthday gift from her mother.

Jenna Fluegeman triggered the outcry after sharing a Tweeting the text message exchange between her and her mum on her birthday.

The mother explained in the text that she bought a Snapchat filter so Jenna and her friends could alter their photographs.

The filter, which appears on photos taken in the social media app, read: “Jenna’s 17th Birthday. 03.30.17.”

But the 17-year-old's response did not seem particularly grateful, instead of saying thank you, she responded: “Why would you do that?”

Many people responding to her post with the message exchange criticised her attitude and described her as "ungrateful" for the gift.

“Be happy she’s doing anything at all,” @NasMaraj replied to the tweet.

The Cincinnati teen later posted a photo with the filter but it didn’t stop the online hate.

Jenna later explained she couldn’t please everyone.

“For anyone who’s wondering I obviously thanked my mom for it and it was very thoughtful, but I didn’t want that attention from my whole school,” she wrote.

The original post received more than 6,000 re-tweets and 1,500 responses.
