WATCH: Kind man comforts elderly woman he found terrified, clinging to lamp post during Storm Doris

A kind man has comforted a 96-year-old woman he saw clutching to a lamp post after she became frightened by Storm Doris while walking to buy some Werther's Originals.

Terrified Joanie was clinging for life as strong winds thrashed the streets of London.

An estate agent, Dan Barnett, noticed Joanie from his office window in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.

"Our office overlooks the high street and I saw the lady clinging on so I rushed out to help," he told the Daily Mail.

He said when he asked if she was OK her eyes “lit up” and she said: “yes please”.

The Mail writes Joanie had popped out for some milk and Werther's Originals but ran out of breath in the wind.

Storm Doris, which brought rain, snow and strong wind gusts of up to 140 kilometres per hour started lashing the UK on Thursday and lasted several days.

Dan said she was clinging on to the post because she feared she might get blown on to the road.

He claimed three other people walked past her without offering to help.

The kind passer-by also offered to walk her home to her cottage up the road and said he was happy to help out.

It’s reported Joanie returned the favour by delivering a box of chocolates to his work.
