Worker at childcare facility accused of setting up camera in centre toilets

A worker at a childcare centre in Perth’s south has been sacked after a spy camera was found hidden in the centre’s toilets.

It’s alleged the 50-year-old hid the camera at the Gowrie Early Years Childcare Centre in Karawarra.

The device was found hidden in a pest control device in the staff toilets last week.

The centre has reassured parents no child was exposed to the recording device, and said it is implementing a review of all operating procedures.

The man had been employed as a maintenance worker, and also carried out duties at a Kewdale centre.

While there was no camera found at that centre, investigations by police have revealed there may have been in the past.

The man has been charged with using an optical surveillance device to record a private activity.

He will face court next month.
