Mum 'disgusted with herself' for drink driving with three young children in car
A Sydney mother who claims she “made a mistake” when she was caught drink driving with her three young children in the back seat has avoided jail.
Jacqueline Mumbler said she was “disgusted with herself” after blowing more than three times the legal limit in a roadside breath test in West Hoxton in May.
In court on Tuesday, Ms Mumbler was given a 13-month suspended jail sentence after the magistrate took into account the 37-year-old’s four month rehabilitation stint.
“I feel a bit relieved,” Ms Mumbler said outside court.
“I have been beating myself up for the past four or five months.
“I made a mistake.”
When caught, Ms Mumbler’s children, aged six, three and eight months, were found in the back seat with the youngest child unrestrained.
The vehicle was also found to be unregistered and uninsured when the mother blew 0.159.
“Yeah it’s a bit of a spin out,” Ms Mumbler said.
“I didn’t know what was gonna happen today.
“I thought I was gonna go to prison.”

The drink driving conviction is not Ms Mumbler’s first, after being charged with mid-range drink driving last year.
The Magistrate warned her jail is a certainty if she breaks the law again.
“It’s a big, big turning point for me,” Ms Mumbler said.
“Opened my eyes up anyway because me kids mean everything.”
