Man who stabbed Tinder lover had terrified, stalked US reporter

The man who repeatedly stabbed a NSW doctor who he planned to then rape and set on fire had previously terrorised and stalked a US television presenter, it has been revealed.

Paul Dennis Lambert, who stabbed a 28-year-old doctor Angela Jay 11 times and attempted to rape and murder her in her Port Macquarie home before dousing her in petrol on November 3, had a disturbing history of psychopathic behaviour.

Dr Jay managed to escape from him and stumble to her neighbour's house to safety, before Lambert went on the run from police.

Lambert, who had met Dr Jay on Tinder several weeks earlier, was eventually shot and killed following a stand-off with officers.

Last year, the 36-year-old Brisbane man was arrested and eventually deported from the US for stalking and extorting Fox News reporter Brittany Ann Keil, The Courier Mail reported.

Documents filed in a Florida Court state Lambert “maliciously threatened [Ms Keil’s] reputation, threatened to expose her to disgrace, expose her secrets".

Lambert reached out to Ms Keil via Tinder while he was holidaying with his wife in October 2014.

They never met in person but he kept in contact with her when he returned to Queensland and reportedly told her his father and best friend had died and that she was the only person who cared.

According to the documents, he then told the journalist he had a brain injury, nine different personalities, a terminal brain tumour and claimed that he was being held against his will, beaten and poisoned, The Courier Mail has reported.

“Yes, I am Paul. One of 9 personalities. I have all memories of others and none of the others have mine," Lambert said according to documents tendered to a US court.

Lambert emailed her and claimed to have a twin brother and said both been dating her and she had not known before.

He also told Ms Keil he had been held against his will, beaten and poisoned.

This was the beginning of Lambert's spate of personal threats and attacks.

When Ms Keil attempted to cut communication with him, it is believed he told her his brain injury had caused him to forget her request.

The TV reporter told him she no longer wanted to see him and the relationship officially ended after three weeks.

Lambert pursued Ms Keil and used "manipulation, guilt, harrassment and control" to compel her into continuing their relationship.

In one week, he sent the journalist 23 emails, 11 Facebook messages, called her 12 times, referred to her as a “killer” on her work Facebook page and threatened to reveal personal information she had told him in confidence.

Ms Keil contacted police when he left her a threatening message and wrote an email to Lambert on May 1 asking for him to leave her alone.

"Paul, please do not contact me anymore through any means. Do not call my job, my phones, email me, text me or attempt to reach me through social media. I no longer wish to have any contact with you whatsoever," she wrote, according to the newspaper.

"I tried to be a friend because of what you are going through but your irrational and vindictive behaviour has made that impossible."

Ms Keil said she meant "no disrespect" and hoped Lambert get the medical help he needed.

"Our relationship is over and I'm sorry it didn't work out. These things happen sometimes and I know you will find someone else."

Lambert replied: "That’s a threat to me. You think I care when I have a death sentence. You don’t care about me why should I to you? A friend would want to catch up. Talk. Have fun."

He then demanded money in exchange for leaving her alone.

“Again can you reply about money. That’s it. Or am I to presume you have taken things further. If you have then I will as well. Sort money then no contact,” he wrote, according to the newspaper.

Ms Keil's lawyer said she was "crying daily, said she couldn't breathe, that she's physically ill, and she's afraid to leave her home".

A police reported stated that Lambert admitted to harassing Ms Keil, admitted to lying about a brain tumor, having a twin and deaths in his family.

On Thursday, Lambert had placed cable ties on Dr Jay's bed and waited at her to come home armed with a knife.

He launched his savage attack at around 6.30pm and repeatedly stabbed the doctor and dousing her in petrol.

Port Macquarie plasterer Steve Willdern told the Daily Telegraph adrenaline rushed through him the second he heard Ms Jay's "piercing screams" for help.

Mr Willdern said he ran down his driveway to find the young doctor "bleeding from her gut, arms and legs".

“I picked her up and ran into my garage where my daughter Amy and I ripped up sheets and towels and used them as bandages to stem the flow," he said.

Mr Willdern described the screams as "guttural", like something out of a horror movie and said he would never forget them for as long as he lives.
