Tinder stalker who stabbed, doused lover in petrol was deported from US

The man who was shot dead by police after repeatedly stabbing a NSW doctor he had met on Tinder, had been deported from the US months earlier for stalking another woman.

Brisbane man Paul Lambert was reportedly going by his birth name Paul Michael Scales in Florida in May 2015 when he breached a restraining order against a former love interest.

Lambert spent two weeks with the American woman last year before returning to spend a further two months together, a friend claimed.

Their brief relationship soured and the woman took out a restraining order against Lambert, according to the Daily Mail.

When he breached the order he was sent back to Australia, with two US federal marshals accompanying him on the flight, according to the source.

It's claimed he changed his name in July 2015 in a bid to make "a fresh start".

On Thursday Lambert allegedly went to the Port Macquarie home of 28-year-old Dr Angela Jay and waited for her to arrive from work before he attacked her.

Dr Jay was forced to crawl bleeding to a neighbouring home after Lambert allegedly stabbed her 11 times.

Lambert then drove north towards Brisbane, leading officers on a pursuit on the Pacific Highway before road spikes stopped him in Bonville, near Coffs Harbour.

Police were forced to shoot him down after he allegedly lunged at officers with a knife, undeterred by tazers.

The pair met on dating app Tinder recently, but he was reportedly unhappy when Dr Jay decided to end the brief relationship about seven weeks ago.

Court documents show Dr Jay became fearful of Lambert after their relationship ended, and she was granted an apprehended violence restraining order against the 36-year-old in court this week.

The documents claim Lambert had bombarded Dr Jay with threatening and abusive messages, and he was ordered not to go near the young doctor or contact her.

“Your (sic) not safe in that house … I have some of the house keys,” one threatening message read.

Police were yet to serve Lambert with Dr Jay’s restraining order after being unable to find him this week.

Lambert left his wife for the American woman only weeks after they wed in late 2014. It was around that time he was fired for allegedly embezzling money, then flew to the US a second time to meet his internet girlfriend, former colleagues said.

They described him as "not right in the head" and said he battled with mental illness.

When police approached the car, it is alleged Lambert lunged at them with a knife, at which point an officer deployed a taser.

Police say when the taser failed to stop the 36-year-old, two officers shot Lambert dead.
