Heartless thieves steal wedding gifts from newly weds

A young couple has told Seven News of their heartbreak after callous thieves stole irreplaceable wedding gifts.

Kayleigh and James Webb were married just seven days ago but are now too terrified to return to their home in Melbourne’s south-east, with the robbery bearing similar traits to the Apex gang.

Married just last weekend, this is not how Kayleigh and James imagined starting their life together.

On Thursday morning 15 minutes after Kayleigh left for work, thieves kicked through the front door stealing spare car keys, a PlayStation, jewellery, James's wedding ring and the entire contents of their wedding wishing well, which the couple were hoping to use to go on a honeymoon.

Police told the couple the thieves' behaviour is similar to the Apex gang.

When Kayleigh started asking neighbours if they had seen anything suspicious, she soon discovered she's not the only victim of crime in this area.

Many residents are too scared to open their doors, with many of them updating security around their homes.

One resident is too scared to have her children sleep in their bedrooms after being followed home and the number plates from her car stolen.

Neighbours saw a white Ford transit van outside Kayleigh and James's home on Thursday morning between 10.30am and 11.30am.

Kayleigh and James had only moved in two weeks ago. They are now staying with family and are not sure they want to return.
