'He started crying like a little baby': Young boy fires 12 rounds, shoots suspected home intruder

An 11-year-old US boy has spoken of the moment he opened fire with a gun and shot an armed intruder who allegedly broke into his home.

Chris Gaither was alone in his Alabama home on April 27 when he heard a noise and realised someone else was inside the property, WVTM-TV reports.

The homeschooler grabbed a knife and said he told the intruder to leave his home four times.

Gaither told media the intruder did not listen to him and instead went upstairs in the home and re-appeared with a .38 [caliber gun].

“When he was coming down the stairs, that’s when he told me he was going to kill me, f-you and all that,” Gaither said.

Gaither upgraded his weapon and grabbed a 9mm handgun and threatened to kill the armed male intruder, ordering him to leave his Talladega home.

“I guess when I pulled the gun out on him he didn’t think it was a real gun cause he didn’t worry about it,” Gaither told the station adding the intruder kept walking.

"I told him I was going to kill him and all that, with the gun, if he didn't get out of my house."

Gaither says he followed the man outside and fired a warning shot followed by another 12 as the intruder fled over the front yard fence with a clothes hamper.

On his final shot, the young boy shot the alleged intruder in the leg who then began "crying like a baby."

According to the station, the man was taken to Brookwood Health Center-Baptist Citizen’s Medical Centre with non-life threatening injuries.

Talladega Police haven't released the name of the suspect yet and the family claim the same man was robbed their house before and they don't know him personally.
