'Snake guy' under investigation and 'love of his life' may be taken away from him

The snake swimmer who was spotted taking his pet snake for a swim in Tallebudgera Creek, raising eyebrows and sending the internet into a meltdown, may have his beloved pet taken away from him.

In the video, Steven Brimelow, repeatedly throws his pet snake, Dora, in the water and waits for it to slither back to him.

Toward the end of the video he is spotted kissing the reptile while juggling a VB long neck in the other hand.

Despite the fact that some people think the video is very 'Australian', the Department of Environment Heritage Protection (EHP) disagree and have since called the police to investigate Mr Brimelow.

“EHP is liaising with Queensland Police in relation to investigating the matter,” a Department of Environment and Heritage Protection spokesperson told Yahoo7.

The EHP said they are unable to comment any further regarding the incident.

But a police spokeswoman told Yahoo7, “It is not a police matter and we are not investigating the incident at this stage.”

Due to Mr Brimelow being under investigation he now risks losing his beloved snake, Dora.

The RSPCA has slammed the game of 'snake and throw' and told the Gold Coast Bulletin the snake wasn't having fun and his actions are “outrageous”.

“Firstly, it is in no way a natural environment for the snake to be in,” Shannon Beagan said.

Mr Beagan claims that snakes rarely enter the water and the reptile would of been under a lot of stress while it was being thrown around in that manner.

He also reportedly said that snakes do not attach to their owners like pet dogs do and it is a "disturbing display".

But the snake's owner doesn't think it is animal cruelty and told the publication that he was just "having a play".

“She’s never bitten me — she’s the love of my life,” Mr Brimelow reportedly said.

“We are together all day, every day."

The 35-year-old also told the publication he bought Dora off Gumtree after his dirt bike was stolen.

Mr Brimelow reportedly claims to have a licence for the snake which he bought from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection and says he feeds her regularly.

The 'snake guy' said Dora has never bitten her and she is the 'love of his life'.

Brisbane musician Indiana Bones captured the footage, which has been viewed millions of times, while he was at the beach with a fellow band member.

“My Dad keeps snakes and I’ve never seen anyone at the beach with one, dancing around, kissing one,” Bones told Yahoo7.

When asked his reaction to the bizarre act he said: “I was impressed. I was flat out impressed. We thought we were rock n roll, spending the day on the beach, but this guy was drinking a beer, with his snake out in public."

“There was one woman screaming the whole time to get out of the water,” Bones laughed.

"He approached us. He came over and showed us his pet snake. He seemed like a pretty social guy," Bones added.

Snakes aren't always as calm as the swimming carpet python. Some have been known to be rather feisty and aggressive.
