Boy, 8, armed with gun tries to rob Florida convenience store

An eight-year-old boy was arrested after walking into a Florida convenience store with a gun in an attempted hold up.

Wearing a motorbike helmet and a rag to cover his face, the boy entered the shop in West Palm Beach on Wednesday evening with a gun hidden beneath a jumper.

CCTV shows how the boy walked up to the counter and pointed the hidden weapon at a worker behind the counter.

"He went through the entry door and very quietly, very confidently," a worker at the store who did not want to be identified told WPTV.

"He told the cashier 'give me the f***king money,'"

A shocked worker was not sure if the weapon was real or not, but they reacted immediately and grabbed the boy.

"I just turned his wrist and took it out from his hand. At that point, another co-worker of mine grabbed him."

The child tried to escape but police arrived and arrested him. The boy told police he stole the gun from his mother.

He was taken to hospital as precaution for his own well-being and later taken to a juvenile correction facility.

He was charged with attempted armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated assault but the state dropped the charges.

The boy has been ordered to attend a diversion program. Failure to do so could result in the charges being reinstated.
