Toddler dies and another fights for life after two backyard pool incidents in Sydney

A three-year-old boy has tragically died and a two-year-old boy is in a critical condition after two separate incidents involving backyard swimming pools in Sydney’s south on Sunday.

The three-year-old died in hospital after he collapsed near a pool in the backyard of a Riverwood home about 5.30pm.

Officers from Campsie Local Area Command and paramedics attended and found the boy unconscious.

They worked frantically to save his life before he was taken to Sydney Children's Hospital in a critical condition.

Sadly, the little boy died a short time later.

Police believed the toddler had been swimming in the pool before he got out and collapsed.

In another incident a two-year-old boy was left fighting for life after he was pulled unconscious from a pool at a home in Camden South overnight.

Paramedics treated the boy at the scene and he was airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Westmead in a critical condition.

Investigations into both incidents will continue today.
