The melee ended with four people in hospital and two behind bars as more and more patrons became involved.

Raza Nadiri and Hassan Ali pleaded guilty to affray for their involvement and today left court without a conviction, telling the magistrate they've suffered in their personal and professional lives since the ugly incident.

"An appropriate penalty was imposed and my clients would just like to get on with their lives at this stage," said defence lawyer Asem Taleb.

In order to find those responsible, police trawled through images on 200 security cameras at the RSL, comparing those images to photo IDs that had to be handed in by everyone who was there that night.
