A 14-year-old girl has died after she became trapped under a speedboat in Devon, south-west England.

Emily Gardner from Gloucester, was on holiday at a popular tourist spot in Brixham when the boat she was in capsized.

British media reported that Emily was in the boat with two friends, Holly Pritchard and Gemma Gadsen.

A man, believe to be the father of one of the girls was also in the boat with them when it capsized.

All occupants were rushed to hospital quickly but Emily was declared deceased soon after. The other two girls were treated for minor injuries.

Emily’s family have since paid tribute to their lost loved one on Facebook.

Her aunt Sharon Ashley wrote: “My beautiful, beautiful niece. Love you so much, sleep tight”.

Coxswain of Torbay’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Mark Criddle, told Metro.Co.Uk that crews found Emily trapped inside the boat when they arrived at the scene.

“We located the girl and brought her on-board the lifeboat where she was immediately given first aid by a doctor and paramedic who were members of the lifeboat crew,” he said.

“We took the girl back to shore where she was handed into the care of paramedics who took her to hospital.”

“The three other people who had been aboard were also taken to hospital after being treated at the lifeboat station.”
