GP admits abuse caught on watch-cam

A family doctor in the UK who used a secret camera inside his James Bond-style wristwatch to record himself abusing female patients is facing jail after admitting to a string of sex charges.

Davinderjit Bains, 45, used his position as a GP at a medical practice near Swindon, Wiltshire, to assault more than two dozen women.

Bains filmed the attacks on his Tieex 4GB Waterproof HD Spy Watch DVR, which has been likened to something out of a 007 film.

It has a built-in camera on the face - with simple on and off buttons to record - and can be bought on the internet for less than STG60 ($A87.75).

Detectives branded Bains a "sexual predator" and said he had "massively" breached the trust of patients.

Swindon Crown Court heard on Friday that Bains has admitted more than 30 charges, including sexual assault and voyeurism.

At a previous hearing, Bains admitted 12 charges of assault by penetration, 11 charges of sexual assault and 11 charges of voyeurism.

He admitted on Friday a further two charges of voyeurism, two of sexual activity with a child and a single charge of assault by penetration.

In total, Bains has pleaded guilty to 39 sex charges.

His not-guilty pleas to three charges of sexual assault and a single count of administering a noxious drug with intent to commit a sexual offence were accepted by the Crown and will lie on file.

At the earlier hearing, Judge Douglas Field banned the media from reporting the guilty pleas until Friday, when the court heard that Bains will not face trial.

Bains, of Nyland Road, Swindon, was remanded into custody to await sentencing.

The offences were committed against 30 women - aged between 14 and 51 - between July 2010 and May 2012.

The police investigation began in June last year when a 19-year-old woman told officers she thought Bains had filmed her as she showered and alleged that she had been sexually assaulted by him in Swindon.

When detectives arrested Bains at the Tinkers Lane Surgery in Royal Wootton Bassett, they discovered his hi-tech wristwatch with spy camera.

They later recovered 361 high-quality video clips from Bain's watch and home computer.

Detective Inspector Mark Garrett, who led the investigation, said Bains had used his position as a GP to abuse patients.

"They put their trust in their doctor and Dr Bains breached that trust massively - compromising his professional position - and breached that trust to the highest order," he said.

"He is a sexual predator, simple as that. And he was allowed to abuse his position of trust and offend for two years."

Bains qualified as a doctor from Mangalore University in 1993 and became a GP in 2007. He is currently suspended from practising by the GMC.

When he was arrested, a helpline was set up for patients at the surgery.

The judge ordered pre-sentence and psychiatric reports ahead of Bains' next court appearance on a date to be set.
