10,000 free Oporto burgers: How to score one
Portuguese chicken fans take note: 10,000 Oporto burgers are up for grabs from 10am Tuesday November 12.
US food courier app DoorDash is launching in Sydney, and is using Oporto's prominence buy itself some publicity. Entering the code 'OPORTODASH' into an Oporto order will grant the user a free Bondi burger, as well as free delivery.
The code will work until 10,000 burgers have been given away or 10pm Sunday November 17, whichever comes first.
DoorDash is already operational in Melbourne, and starts in Sydney with big names like Oporto, Grill'd, Ogalo, Fishbowl and Hurricanes Grills on board.
The service will commence Tuesday in downtown Sydney alongside suburbs North Sydney, St Peters, Leichhardt, Manly, Bondi Beach, Maroubra, Parramatta, Castle Hill, Quakers Hill, Caringbah, Moorebank, Campbelltown, Kingswood, Punchbowl and Pymble.
The delivery service enters a very competitive Australian market, which already has Uber Eats, Deliveroo, Menulog and Easi riders buzzing around – while Foodora withdrew from the country last year.
DoorDash faced criticism in Melbourne after it was accused of signing up unsuspecting restaurants onto its platform without consent.
"We are combining learnings from Melbourne’s unprecedented growth, our expertise from North America, and first-hand knowledge of what it’s like to be a Sydneysider to bring the best version of DoorDash," said DoorDash Australia general manager Thomas Stephens.
To distinguish themselves in a crowded market, DoorDash is also starting in Sydney with its "30 or $30" policy. This sees orders with selected restaurants guaranteed to arrive within 30 minutes – or the customer receives $30 credit.
DoorDash was founded in 2013 and claims to be the largest food platform in the US with 35 per cent market share. Australia is its first foray outside of North America.
