Medical miracle: Triplets born three years apart
Sarah Swann has three children.
Her eldest George was born in 2012, her youngest two in 2015, yet they are triplets, all conceived at the same time.
The 45-year-old, from Leicester in the UK, turned to IVF at the age of 40 in a desperate bid to have a family.
Doctors were able to fertilize five of Sarah's eggs, two of which were placed back in her womb, resulting in her eldest child.
“I was thrilled when I knew the treatment had worked and I was actually pregnant,” she told Express.
“The first three months I was on tenterhooks in case anything went wrong.
"Luckily my pregnancy went smoothly and I felt amazing.”
In 2012, Sarah gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
But she wouldn't stop at just one miracle.
“I loved being a mum to George, and I was desperate for him to have a little brother or sister before it was too late.”
Sarah underwent a second course of IVF, during which she had two of the fertilized eggs that had been frozen, placed back in her womb.
Two weeks later she found out she was pregnant and in January this year, Sarah gave birth to twins Lilah and Noah.
“It was so emotional when they were born and when I was holding them in my arms, it was the most amazing moment.
“I couldn’t believe that my little triplet family was complete, even if Noah and Lilah have been born three years behind their big brother."
Sarah said people are shocked when she tells them her children are triplets.
“People just can’t believe it when I tell them that they were all conceived at the same time," she said.
“When they are old enough I’ll tell them of their unusual start in life.
"Having three babies is hard work, but it’s all worth it to be a mum.”
