Stuart's year a hard act to follow

Paul Stuart believes it will be difficult to repeat the success of last year as he prepares Dyna Nalin to defend next month's $210,000 Sky Racing Perth Cup (530m) title.

Stuart has had a remarkable impact in greyhound racing with Pedrosa, Miata and Dyna Nalin.

Pedrosa was named 2010 WA greyhound of the year and Miata became the first WA dog to win Australian greyhound of the year in 2012.

Miata, who smashed Australia's stakes-earning record ($715,008) from her 42 wins and six placings, also won the 2012 WA greyhound of the year title.

Stuart became the first trainer to prepare the winners of the Perth Cup and Galaxy (715m) finals on the same night last February.

Miata was retired to stud last May and has produced a litter of seven pups by Barcia Bale.

Dyna Nalin finished an outstanding year by claiming his third Group 1 in the Sale Cup (650m) on Boxing Day after winning the Topgun (525m) at The Meadows in October.

"It is sure going to be hard to top last year that's for sure, but we will give it a go," Stuart said.

Stuart gave Dyna Nalin a 10-day break after the Sale Cup but had to put him back into work earlier than anticipated after the $516,375 earner "carried on like a pork chop".

Dyna Nalin is set to make his first appearance of the year at Cannington over 530m next Saturday week.

"He will drop back to the 530m for the Perth Cup, we then will look at the Australian Cup series," Stuart said. "I would have given him a bit longer but he has done well during his time off and he is raring to go."

Also lining up for Stuart in the Perth Cup are Hillbilly Flash and Fancy Dreamer, an emergency for tomorrow's Birthday Cup at Mandurah.

WA's premier trainer Linda Britton has picked Te Amo as her best chance above Gomes and Hello Knocka in the Group 3 Birthday Cup (405m) after her heat win in 22.55sec. at her debut over the dash.
