Malaysian T20 series canned

The Twenty20 cricket tournament due to be held in Kuala Lumpur this month has been postponed.

WA were invited to represent Cricket Australia at the inaugural event and compete against teams from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, West Indies and Sri Lanka.

Organisers now hope to stage the event after the 2011 World Cup and Indian Premier League.

The WACA will instead send 26 players to Malaysia for a week-long pre-season camp.

The touring party will be undertaking training and recovery sessions, playing two intra-squad 45-over matches under the new format for the national one-day competition and also take on the Malaysian national team in a Twenty20 fixture.

"It is unfortunate that the tournament has been postponed but we still believe we have a great opportunity to gain match practice and train in excellent facilities during our pre-season camp in Malaysia," coach Mickey Arthur said.

"We will also play matches upon our return to Perth and have no doubt that the players will be well prepared and ready to go for the start of the 2010-11 season on October 8."
