Australian market set to open higher

The Australian market looks set to open higher, after gains on Wall Street overnight.

At 0704 AEDT on Friday, the December share price index futures contract was up 17 points points at 5,389.

Wall Street stocks rose more than one per cent following a series of mostly strong earnings reports from Dow members Caterpillar, 3M and others.

Locally, no major economic news is expected on Friday.

In equities news, Resmed is expected to release first quarter results, while Qantas, PaperlinX, Quickflix, and Carsales.com all have annual general meetings scheduled.

In Australia, the market on Thursday, finished slightly lower as global growth worries kept buyers at bay after a seven day winning streak.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 2.8 points, or 0.05 per cent, lower at 5,383.1 points, according to preliminary figures.

The broader All Ordinaries index was down 3.4 points, or 0.06 per cent, at 5,369.9.
