Newborn dies in Worsley crash

A four-week-old boy has died after a car crash in Worsley last night.

The infant and his 24-year-old mother were passengers in a white Nissan Patrol when it left the road and crashed down an embankment before hitting a tree around 7.45pm.

The baby's death pushes the national holiday road toll to nine.

The crash, on River Road, is being investigated by Major Crash officers.

The mother and her baby were taken to Bunbury Regional Hospital.

"Tragically, the 4-week-old boy died as a result of injuries received in the crash," a police spokesman said.

The 24-year-old woman received minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old woman, also received minor injuries but was not taken to hospital.
