Broome is hot for shots

There must be something extraordinary about Broome.

From about 5000 entries in Tourism WA's 1001 Extraordinary Experiences competition, Broome and its famed Cable Beach was photographed most.

Entries came from nearly 20 countries, including 300 from Singapore.

Other popular locations are Perth, Rottnest Island and Karijini National Park.

Tourism WA chief executive Stephanie Buckland said some entries were stunning.

"Choosing the final 1001 images to feature in a new campaign quick film will be quite a challenge for the judging panel, never mind selecting the top five which will each win WA holidays to the value of $10,000," she said.

Entries close on March 28 with more information available at www.westernaustralia.com/1001.

Meanwhile, Tourism Australia has confirmed it has 275,000 applications for its best jobs in the world competition. They have come from 150,000 people in 196 countries, including 38,000 from the US, 33,000 from France, 32,000 from Britain and 30,000 from Italy.

The jobs include as South Australia's wildlife caretaker (19.4 per cent), NSW's chief funster (19.2) and Queensland's park ranger (18.5).

WA's taste master position attracted 14.9 per cent of applications - or about 41,000.
