Arrest over copper theft

A man has been charged over the alleged theft of copper valued at $15,000 from a Belmont business.

Police charged the 22-year-old man after they discovered a large amount of copper while searching a Forrestfield home last night.

Officers are also questioning a 28-year-old man in relation to the alleged theft at a plumbing business on October 12.

The 22-year-old man is alleged to have been involved in stealing a large amount of copper pipes from the business which he allegedly loaded on to the business’ truck before driving away.

The truck was found abandoned 9km away at Kenwick Shopping Centre.

Police called for the public’s help to find a man pictured at the business during the theft.

Officers seized the allegedly stolen copper from the property last night and charged the man with two counts of stealing a motor vehicle, aggravated burglary and commit, stealing and cultivating cannabis.
