Wine time with Cliff Richard

Wine time with Cliff Richard - full story

16 September, 2012

Reporter: Ross Coulthart
Producer: Erin Reimer

He’s the Peter Pan of pop, the Queen’s favourite rocker and has sold a staggering 250 million records worldwide. Sir Cliff Richard has outsold the Rolling Stones and still sells more calendars than Justin Bieber.

He’s headed to Australia for a national tour early next year, but we found the legend sitting amongst the grapevines of his own Portuguese vineyard, having his very own ‘Summer Holiday’.

Sunday Night’s Ross Coulthart saw a very different side to the lifelong bachelor as he invited the reporter to his beautiful Portuguese villa and winery and taught him a thing or two about winemaking.

Off-camera, Richard provided a wealth of knowledge about winemaking, which is a huge passion for him. Once Richard started his vineyard in the Algarve region, others followed suit, so his passion also helped to regenerate the local industry.

From poor beginnings, the superstar has had a career spanning six decades, with hits that became anthems around the world. Richard is indisputably Britain’s all-time greatest hit-maker. No other UK band or solo artist is even close to equaling his 123 single hits.
