Breastfeeding mums have a win in Parliament

Breastfeeding mums protest in Parliament

A group of mothers has won the day in South Australian Parliament, with the government reinstating funding for a breastfeeding support program.

The angry mums and their hungry babies crowded State Parliament this afternoon, making their disapproval over a funding cut for a breastfeeding support group known during question time.

While the move took some MPs by surprise, Speaker Lyn Breuer welcomed the group, telling them she is a firm advocate of breastfeeding.

Last week 7News revealed the Australian Breastfeeding Association had half of its $43,000 annual State Government grant cut, and next year it would be completely removed.

Health Minister John Hill today announced the money would be reinstated.

“That funding will be maintained at current levels,” Minister Hill said.
