Crocodile fears: Police desperately search for missing pair in NT

Northern Territory Police hold grave fears for two people who jumped into the Mary River, a waterway known for its high crocodile population.

Authorities are seeking information on the whereabouts of missing 19-year-old Caitlyn Munnich and 25-year-old Raphael Woodhouse.

Territory Duty Superintendent James O’Brien said they were last seen in the vicinity of Bird Billabong in the Mary River, early this morning.

“We believe the pair may have jumped into the Mary River and hold grave concerns for their welfare,” he said.

“The Mary River system is full of salt water crocodiles and we are hoping that these people have made it to safety.”

It’s understood the pair were trying to evade police at a roadblock when they jumped into the known croc hotspot.

"Police had set up a random road block," a NT Police spokeswoman told the ABC.

"The pair ran from the car and were seen running towards the river and they jumped in the river."

The river is believed to have one of the highest concentration of crocs in Australia.

Caitlyn Munnich is described as being of Indigenous appearance, about 160cm tall with long dark hair.

Raphael Woodhouse is described as being of Indigenous appearance, about 175cm tall and of medium build with short dark hair.

If you have any information about the pair police are urging people to call 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
