He believes his success comes from attacking major issues that have been ignored by politicians, such as mining and petrol prices.

And his audience of nearly half a million people would probably agree.

The latest radio survey gave Jones a 17.1 percent audience share, which was almost double that of his nearest rival.

He has won 189 out of 190 surveys.

In his time in the box seat, Jones has seen off eight Prime Ministers, gone head to head with countless politicians and had his fair share of controversy too.

He came under fire in 2012 after he told a private function the father of former Prime Minister Julia Gillard ‘died of shame.’

A comment he says he regrets.

“Yeah look you don't want to do anything that hurts anyone's feelings there is no defence,” Jones told 7 News.

“I don't hold any malice toward her and certainly wish her well."

The proud conservative says despite his age, which is believed to be 74, he has no plans to stop pushing buttons.

"People talk about retirement, it never enters my mind. Age shouldn't be a barrier."
