Man found not guilty of trying to strangle ex-partner

A Tasmanian man has been found not guilty of trying to kill his former partner by strangling her.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was alleged to have entered his former partner's unit last September and squeezed his hands around her throat.

The jury deliberated for six hours before deciding the accused was guilty of the lesser charge of intending to cause grievous bodily harm and not guilty of attempted murder.

He was found guilty of five other charges of assault and aggravated burglary.

He has been remanded in custody for sentencing in April.
