Hobart to host world dinner

The world is coming to dinner and Australia is on the menu.

Food and wine experts from around the globe will tuck in for what is being touted as the world's biggest dinner, to be held in Hobart in November.

Top Australian chefs Neil Perry, Peter Gilmore and Ben Shewry will plate up for the gala event organised by Tourism Australia to showcase the nation's prowess as an appetite-driven travel destination.

The guest list will be brimming with critics, bloggers, writers, broadcasters, commentators and celebrity chefs from across Asia, Europe, India and the United States and Canada, who boast a following of more than 400 million people.

They will be filmed by 10 foreign TV crews.

The November 14 dinner will bring to a close a four-day gastronomic tour of Australia which will see the 80 experts treated to unique experiences including mud crabbing in the Northern Territory, hot-air balloon breakfast flights over Canberra, cheese-making in South Australia, and oyster shucking in NSW.

Hobart's Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) was chosen to host the dinner because of its architecture, highly-acclaimed restaurant, and on-site heritage vineyard and brewery.

Perry aims to produce a menu that "lingers long in the minds of guests".
