Baird slammed for News Corp ad appearance

With just five months until the NSW election, Premier Mike Baird has been accused of cosying up to a major newspaper publisher.

Mr Baird has been criticised for appearing in a video ad for The Daily Telegraph's subscription service.

He is seen in the advertisement sitting opposite News Corp columnists Andrew Bolt, Miranda Devine and Andrew Clennell in a Sydney train.

The ad features other well known personalities such as cricketer Brett Lee and chef Matt Moran.

Greens MP John Kaye said it wasn't appropriate for the premier to be appearing in such an advertisement.

He said Mr Baird had put himself in a "deeply compromised position".

"Less than six months (before the election) and the premier is out there advertising for one particular media outlet," Dr Kaye told AAP.

"He's exposed himself to the risk of being accused of currying favour with one outlet in order to get appropriate coverage during the election."

A spokeswoman for the premier said he would be happy to appear in an ad for other newspapers if asked.

"He thinks it's a good thing for people to be buying and reading newspapers," she said.

Critics have also taken to Twitter to question why Mr Baird decided to feature in the ad.

The opposition declined to comment.
