SA home to most aggressive drivers, survey finds

A nation-wide survey has branded South Australians as the most aggressive drivers in the country.

South Australians have been branded the most aggressive drivers in the country in a nation-wide survey.

It seems from the festival state were in no mood to party on the road, with the survey finding South Aussie drivers have a short fuse with other motorists, and are quick to ignore speed restrictions.

Almost 4000 people took part in the survey, including 600 from South Australia.

“Ignoring the speed limits in restricted areas such as outside schools… South Australians are the worst in the country for that sort of problem,” Reuben Aitchinson from insurance company AAMI told 7News.

But the Motor Accident Commission (MAC) said South Australians are reversing the trend.

In the past five years, the number of speed camera fines ahs dropped by 70 per cent.

“They’ve gone from 16,000 in a single month to 5000,” Sharon Hanlon from the MAC said.

According to the survey, South Australians are also notorious for swearing at other drivers and for honking horns when they get in the way.

One Adelaide motorist certainly agreed with that.

“Yeah, I do beep the horn and every so often might flip the bird out the window,” one driver told 7News.

But some visitors say SA roads are a dream ride.

“Compared to Mexico city, this is a lovely place to drive,” one American tourist said.

But the RAA said road rage is dangerous in any state.

“Driving is a complex task, and it’s best done when you’re calm and have the ability to concentrate on what you’re doing,” Charles Mountain from the RAA said.

His advice is to let those pesky drivers pass.
