Five injured in Travancore crash

Five men have been involved in a smash in Melbourne's north-west in the early hours of this morning.

The men were travelling in a Sedan along Mt Alexander Road, Travancore, shortly after 3am when the crash happened.

Police say the driver lost control of the car and clipped a concrete bridge, before crossing tram tracks and hitting a power pole.

The male driver and the front seat passenger had to be cut free from the wreckage.

They were taken to hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Three men in the back seat all suffered minor injuries.

An ambulance who happened to be in the area at the time came across the wreck and paramedics were able to assist.

Police are investigating whether speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
