MasterChef fans outraged amid calls Poernomo be axed

Channel Ten's MasterChef program has come under fire following revelations one of its contestants is the brother of a celebrity judge in the Indonesian version.

Reynold Poernomo, 20, is the son of a Sydney patisserie-owner and the younger brother of Arnold Poernomo - a celebrity judge on MasterChef Indonesia.

Fans were outraged considering Mario Montecullo, 38, was earlier booted from the show due to his 'significant experience in a commercial kitchen.'

'He should be kicked off the show! This is a complete outrage!. I am outraged,' one fan posted to Facebook.

The judges on the other hand were most impressed.

"Best dessert I've seen in six years," MasterChef Australia judge Matt Preston said when he tried Poernomo's 'Forbidden Fruit' inspired dish.

In the wake of Montecullo's elimination, Network Ten released a statement confirming the 38-year-old could no longer compete as it had been revealed the Sydney bar owner had been employed as a cook for five months, within the last 15 years.

'Both Shine Australia and Network Ten take the rules of the competition very seriously with regard to cooks being of an amateur status,' a spokeswoman reportedly said in a statement.
