The security scare comes as an 11-metre-high model of the Republican US presidential candidate was burned at a fireworks display in London.

The burning effigy was part of Britain's annual bonfire night celebrations, and had a comedic undertone with the statue showing Trump holding rival Hillary Clinton in a headlock.

Donald Trump refused to be shaken by the Reno scare, thanking the secret service agents for their “fast and professional response”.

“I also want to thank the many thousands of people present for their unwavering and unbelievable support. Nothing will stop us - we will make America great again!"

A twitter user reported seeing a man led out in handcuffs at the scene.

Initial reports suggested a man had a gun but that was not confirmed.

7 News understands someone in the crowd yelled "he's got a gun" before security acted.

The rally was not evacuated.

In an unrelated gun scare, the White House was placed under lock down on Saturday after an armed masked man was seen outside the perimetre fence.

According to reports, a Secret Service agent confronted the man on Pennsylvania Avenue before he was arrested.

President Obama was not in the building at the time.
