Aussie man dies in balcony fall in Bali

An Australian man has died in Bali after plunging from his hotel balcony.

31-year-old Mark David Sansom was found dead at the Harris Sunset Road Hotel in Denpasar after falling from his hotel room.

Hotel staff reported that Mr Sansom’s body had been found on the ground with severe head injuries.

Police report that Mr Sansom, from Alstonville, northern NSW, committed suicide by jumping from his second floor hotel room.

“We allege that he jumped from his room, causing severe head injuries. When found, the victim was dead,” South Denpasar police chief, Nanang Prihasmoko told News Corp.

Mr Nanang said police had questioned two hotel staff who found the body. Another staff member had seen the victim about 30 minutes before his death.

“From the CCTV footage, the victim was seen (looking) confused, and was repeatedly in and out of his room,” he said.

“Around 30 minute before he was found dead hotel staff talked to him. The staff member said the victim looked confused and not focused.

No drugs or alcohol were found in his room.

Mr Nanang said that, based on the statement of the hotel duty manager, Wayan Suandi, Mr Sansom appeared confused and have hallucinations.

Mr Sansom allegedly spoke to Mr Wayan in the hotel lobby shortly before his death, Mr Nanang said.

“The witness said that the victim said to him that he felt that the sounds of many chickens and birds disturbed him, making him unable to go to sleep. He asked Suandi, ‘why are many chickens and birds near his room?’ In fact, there are no birds or chickens at the hotel.”

“As of now, we haven’t found anything suspicious. We allege that the victim was having hallucinations. An autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of Mr Sansom’s death.” Mr Nanang said.

Mr Sansom was thought to have been holidaying alone.
