Rainbow lorikeets spotted in Esperance

Esperance residents have been asked to look out for rainbow lorikeets, after two recent sightings of three of the declared pests in the town centre and near Pink Lake.

Department of Agriculture and Food biosecurity officer Darren Dixon said the birds were considered a serious agricultural and urban pest.

"We don't want it to become established on the south coast," he said.

Residents in the Esperance area are urged to report sightings by calling Mr Dixon on 0400 237 290, the department's Esperance office on 9083 1111 or the Pest and Disease Information Service on 1800 084 881.
