Prison guard charged with corruption
A Wooroloo prison guard has been charged with official corruption.
Police from the Ulysses Taskforce charged the woman earlier this week as part of their ongoing crackdown into corruption and organised crime links within the prison system.
The 50-year-old has been released on bail to appear in the Midland Magistrate’s Court on June 13.
Police have refused to provide details about the allegations, saying investigations are ongoing.
The charge follows the jailing in April of a chef instructor at Greenough prison near Geraldton, who smuggled cannabis and a mobile phone to a bikie inmate.
The Operation Ulysses taskforce, which was set up last year, has recommended the re-establishment of a police prisons unit after finding WA jails were awash with drugs.
The unit was dissolved almost 10 years ago.
