Python eats family's pet dog - again

A Whitsunday woman has described the moment she realised a python had eaten the family’s pet dog Walter.

Michelle Grigg told the Daily Mercury she heard her husband shouting out early in the morning and went to investigate.

Ms Grigg, who says she is used to scrub pythons invading the chook house and had been catching snakes ‘since she was little’, then grabbed the snake, with a bulge clearly seen.

“I was standing out on our patio where we have big pot plants and I looked down at my feet and there was the snake,” she told the Daily Mercury.

“I was very calm. I'm good in stressful situations."

"I woke them [her children] up for school and told them what had happened.

"They were absolutely devastated and my son wanted me to have killed it so he could have buried Walter.

"But I picked up the snake and relocated it.

"I've lived on property since I was five years old and I've been catching snakes since I was little."

The incident is the second reported case of a family's pet dog being eaten by a python in as many weeks.

Only last week a NSW woman endured a nasty shock after finding her pet dog, that had been chained in its kennel, swallowed by a python.
