Police ball to make a comeback
The glitzy Broome Police Legacy Ball will make a spectacular comeback this year when it returns in full swing to entertain locals and raise funds for a good cause.
A highlight of Broome's social calendar, the annual event will once again be held at the iconic Sun Pictures on November 2.
This year's co-recipient is the Kyle Andrews Foundation.
Half the proceeds from the ball will support the foundation's latest project, to purchase property in Perth to accommodate families in the Kimberley and North West with children receiving treatment at Princess Margaret Hospital. Kyle Andrews vice-president Peter Watterston said the foundation was about providing respite for sick children and their families by coming to Broome.
"That ethos still remains with our new goal," he said.
"We would like to provide North West families having to travel to Perth for treatment with a place to stay, close to the hospital free of charge. By providing a Perth-based place of respite after the rigours of treatment, we hope it will make their day and their lives that little bit easier."
To date, the foundation has raised $300,000 towards the project. Police Legacy Ball committee chairman Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Baddock said he was delighted to announce Kyle Andrews as this year's co-recipient, after witnessing firsthand the outstanding support given to young cancer patients.
"I was lucky enough this year to be closely involved in Kyle's Camp and whilst I knew what Kyle's wish was, I got to see it happen," he said.
"What I saw was a bunch of great kids who were fighting the fight of their life, but you know what, Kyle was right, being in Broome put a smile on their face. I got to talk to them and, most importantly, have a laugh with them. It was an opportunity and a period of time I will never forget."
During the evening, an auction will be held and guests will have the chance to win two nights' accommodation in a luxury villa at Cable Beach Club Resort and Spa, complete with a private courtyard and plunge pool.
The prize includes return private airport transfers, a butler service, continental breakfast in-room or a full buffet breakfast at the Sunset Bar and Grill, canapes served daily and champagne on arrival.
