No place like Perth, says V8 racer

Motor racing up-and-comer Karl Reindler will accelerate into the limelight this year when he competes in his second V8 Supercar Championship.

The South Perth-based driver, who is a member of the Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing team, is looking forward to the international series which will mark its return to WA from April 29 to May 1 at Barbagallo Raceway in Wanneroo.

"It's great for Perth because we don't have the Red Bull Air Race anymore and it (the V8s) is a world- class event," he told Access All Areas yesterday at the official launch for the Perth leg of the event at Kings Park.

There are 14 rounds in this year's V8 Supercar Championship, running from this month to December - kicking off in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates on Friday week.

Reindler says the rigorous travel schedule has made him appreciate his home city and he plans to remain based here for the foreseeable future despite having raced all over the world.

"I should probably move to Melbourne to be closer to the race team but I just can't get enough of Perth," he said.
