'Nanny cam' captures abuse of special needs toddler

A nanny has been captured on camera hitting, slapping and even painfully pinching a special needs toddler in Los Angeles.

The child's horrified parents saw the video when they decided to check on their son via their nanny cam app after they kept receiving alerts about significant moment in the living room, NBC reported.

The nurse who the family entrusted to care for two-year-old Landon was instead abusing him and even at one point in the vision can be seen hitting the child with a rolled up magazine.

Landon suffers from a rare disorder, Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, where he requires round the clock care.

The toddler also eats through a feeding tube and can’t talk.

“He’s not verbal. He’s already blind in one eye. And he’s 100 per cent fed by a feeding tube,” Landon’s mother told CBS 2 news.

Landon’s mother, Dyana Ko, was with her husband watching their other son play basketball when she witnessed the horrific abuse.

“I told the other moms. I said ‘I think I see my special needs baby being abused. I think I’m going to pass out,’” Ko told CBS 2 News.

“I don’t know if I can ever forgive myself for that,” the devastated mother told CBS 2 news.

“My husband was in the parking lot, moving the car at the time. I told them if I passed out look at the video because this is what I see going on,” the distressed mother continued.

It was then that the parents called 911 and police offices rushed to the residence.

According to CBS 2 the nurse was arrested.

“I just feel like as his parents, we failed him, because we left someone to take care of him,” the distraught mother told CBS.

According to NBC, the nanny was employed by Maxim Healthcare Services, a nationwide company that provides home health care.

They have reportedly since fired the nanny and have also notified the California Board of Nursing.

The Ko family has filed a lawsuit against the company and the nurse.

Ko’s lawyer Scott Dinsmore said, “It’s the worst case I’ve ever seen of somebody taking advantage — where you have a vulnerable party and a powerful party’.

“I don’t know if I can ever forgive myself for that,” the devastated mother told CBS 2 news.
