Accused rapist blames drug ice for violent crimes

A man who allegedly attacked a woman and a teenager inside their Melbourne homes has told police he can’t remember the attacks because he was under the influence of methamphetamine.

Davut Bulduk was identified by police as the man captured on CCTV running away from a Roxburgh Park home where a 16-year-old girl was raped in February.

Mr Bulduk allegedly broke into the girl’s family home and attacked her as her parents slept nearby.

A police search of the surrounding streets uncovered dumped items of clothing, apparently worn by Mr Bulduk during the attack.

The 30-year-old was also charged with a second home invasion and rape of a woman in Coolaroo on New Year’s Eve.

According to police, Mr Bulduk confessed to the two sex attacks with DNA evidence linking him to the crimes.

“After initial denials and a false alibi, the accused provided a full admission and blamed his use of ice for a purported lack of memory,” prosecutor Gavin Silbert SC said.

“Both were violent rapes and are supported by DNA evidence.”

Mr Bulduk has entered not guilty pleas to the charges, but his lawyer has indicated he will change those pleas to guilty at his next appearance.

The 30-year-old is charged with a string of offences including seven counts of rape and two counts of aggravated burglary.
He will appear in court again on July 27.
