Elderly woman in critical condition after assault, man charged
A man has been charged in connection with a serious assault on a 71-year-old woman in Hobart.
A social media post by Tasmania Police led to the man's arrest.
The woman remains in a critical condition in hospital after she was assaulted on New Town Road on Saturday morning.
A photo of the alleged offender was given to police by a witness.
The accused was identified in response to the post on Tasmania Police's Facebook page.
The 50-year-old has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm.
He has been remanded in custody to appear in the Magistrates Court at a later date.
