Queensland Police Sergeant Jamie Deacon told 7 News a drop from the road into the driveway was possibly the reason why the driver could not see the man.

"It's tragic. I don't know where they were but it is coming up to the festive season and it's a tragic event at any time," Sergeant Deacon said.

Police questioned the driver but believe the incident is just a tragic accident.
