Aged care worker faces court accused of assaulting elderly woman

An aged care worker has faced court charged with the sexual assault of an elderly resident in a nursing home in Sydney's south-west.

It took days for staff to understand the awful allegations the woman was making.

Her 47-year-old alleged attacker has now been placed under house arrest.

Father-of-two Manoj Kumar left Liverpool courthouse, under strict bail conditions, clear on what he's been charged with.

"Well I've been accused of like arrested for sexually abuse someone, I mean - that's all you can say,” he said.

He said he was innocent.

Kumar was working at Christadelphian Aged Care, Padstow Heights.

He’s accused of sexually assaulting the 72-year-old resident earlier this month, the alleged victim is intellectually disabled.

It took the centre four days to call police as at first, staff couldn't understand her.

The nursing home released a statement on Friday:
''"Immediately... the employee was suspended from duty and their access to Southhaven Aged Care terminated."
The Magistrate banned Kumar from entering any nursing home in the state.''

Kumar's wife will now have to supervise him.

He's been placed under house arrest at their Heckenberg home and won't be allowed to leave without her.

He will re-appear at Burwood local court in December.
