Flanagan set for new Liverpool deal - Rodgers

London (AFP) - Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers revealed on Friday that 21-year-old full-back Jon Flanagan is to be offered a new contract at the club.

Flanagan has established himself as a regular member of the Liverpool starting XI this season, making 14 appearances, and excelled in his side's 3-0 win at Manchester United last weekend.

"Jon will be given a new contract," Rodgers said, in comments reported by several British newspapers. "Come the summer he's got another year (to run on his contract) so he will definitely be given a new deal, no question.

"He has been outstanding. He reminded me of (former Liverpool full-back) Steve Nicol against Manchester United on Sunday -- a right-footed player on the left side; steady, aggressive, no fear.

"He's been a revelation, and particularly in the big games. It's great when you see a young player develop like that. You can see the confidence he has now. He has made himself an important member of the squad."
