Gas leak forces evacuation of office buildings at Mulgrave
A gas leak forced the evacuation of a number of office buildings and blocked a major road in Melbourne's south-east this morning.
It is understood a worker on an excavator accidentally ruptured a gas pipe on Springvale Road at Mulgrave at about 9.30am.
A two kilometre stretch of Springvale Road was closed as fire crews worked to prevent an explosion.
Scores of workers and residents were evacuated and drivers are urged to avoid the area.
The scene was finally declared safe at around midday.
