Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado

Showcasing three and a half centuries of Spanish paintings, Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado is the first collection of work from Madrid’s esteemed Museo Nacional del Prado ever to be shown in Australia. The exhibition explores the evolution of Spanish painting, and includes masterpieces by renowned painters who worked in the Spanish royal court including El Greco, Velázquez, Ribera, Goya and Rubens.

Visitors to ‘Portrait of Spain’ will have an unprecedented opportunity to see over 100 extraordinary works of art from one of the most prestigious museum collections in the world as well as experiencing the vibrancy of Spanish history, design, food and culture first hand in La Sala del Prado — a large-scale lounge area featuring an integrated café and interactive spaces that reflect cutting edge contemporary Spanish design.

The Queensland Art Gallery is open Up Late on Friday nights during ‘Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado’. Offering a unique opportunity to enjoy the exhibition, Up Late also features weekly talks, live music performances, and Spanish cuisine. Fridays 31 August– 2 November 2012, 5.30–10.00pm.
