Caring barber goes to great lengths to make sure this autistic boy gets a great haircut
One barber showed why he’s a cut above the rest by making visits to the hairdresser much more bearable for one young boy with autism.
Canadian mother Fauve Lafreniere uploaded an image on Facebook recently showing barber Franz Jakob lying on the floor next to her six-year-old son Wyatt as he trimmed the boy’s hair.
The mother was showing how difficult it’s been for her son, who was diagnosed with autism at age two, to sit still and comfortable long enough to get a haircut.
"He don’t like his hair to be touched and a lot of sounds are aggressive for him," Ms Lafreniere told 7 News Online.
The mother shared with Mr Jakob, a friend, about the difficulties getting her son's hair trimmed. He told her to bring Wyatt to see him.
The first time he cut Wyatt's hair she was nervous, but Mr Jakob has been cutting Wyatt’s hair for two years now.
"Now I just feel blessed that we have Mr Jakob in our life, in every way, " Ms Lafreniere said.
"Anyone can make a difference with an open mind and love," Ms Lafreniere said.
Wyatt still doesn't love to have his hair trimmed but his mother said he is always happy to see Mr Jakob.
According to ABC News, it takes an hour and a half for Mr Jakob to cut Wyatt's hair.
He begins by playing a game or giving him candy.
"I'm just being really, really, really patient because they are the drivers. I'm not the one driving those moments," he explained.
Mr Jakob told US media outlets that he is just doing his job and he tries to go the extra mile for his clients.
"There’s no difference for me if I’m doing a popular singer or if I’m doing Wyatt," he said.
Mr Jakob also cuts the hair of many terminally ill patients and children with disabilities at no cost.
He makes sure to schedule these special appointments at the end of the day so he can take his time.
