Woman's frantic 911 call after 'murdering fiancé'

A US woman accused of murdering her fiancé on a kayak trip along New York’s Hudson River allegedly made a frantic 911 call after his death claiming to be searching for him.

Vincent Viafore drowned after his craft took on water and capsized while paddling with his partner near Bannerman’s Island on April 19.

His wife-to-be Angelike Graswald told police that at 7.15pm Mr Viafore "went under water and drowned".

According to authorities, Ms Graswald then flipped her own kayak and waited twenty-five minutes before calling emergency services.

“We out kayaking, my fiancé flipped over, he’s in the water right now,” she can be heard saying in the two-minute call.

“I don’t see him anymore.”

The 35-year-old was later rescued by emergency workers and treated for hypothermia.

Police say she has admitted to having lied about what happened, staging her own capsize to make her fiancé's death look like an accident.

Ms Graswald reportedly stood to gain $250, 000 from his death.

She has been charged with second-degree murder.

The trial continues.
