A teenage cyclist who was hit by a car says he was told by one of its passengers that they couldn't stop to help him because it would upset their children.

Taron Stead was riding his brand new mountain bike in Sheffield, the UK, when he was struck by a silver Ford.

The 17-year-old said the car then pulled over and a woman got out.

She reportedly told him they had to keep driving because she didn’t want her children to be late for school.

She also said the sight of his blood would frighten them.

Taron said the family then drove off, leaving him bloodied and bruised on the side of the road.

Taron’s mother Naomi Pickard said she was disgusted by the woman’s behavior.

She released a photo of his badly bruised face.

“I can’t believe anyone would leave an injured child at the side of the road after a crash,” she told the Sheffield Star.

“It was rush hour and it would have been busy so I am hoping that witnesses come forward and help the police trace the driver.

“Fortunately he was wearing a helmet, or I dread to think what might have bloody happened.”

Taron was found by staff from nearby Sheffield University.

His mother said they offered to repair his bike for free because they were so horrified by what had happened to him.

A police spokesperson said authorities were investigating the incident.

Taron is recovering from his injuries.
